Alejandro Díaz-Moscoso

Alejandro Díaz-Moscoso holds a PhD in organic chemistry by the University of Seville. He has a long research career and, in 2024, he was appointed as tenured scientist of the CSIC at the Institute for Chemical Research (Sevilla). His professional experience spans the fields of organic chemistry and supramolecular chemistry, especially using macrocycles. Beyond research, he enjoys science outreach and dissemination. On a more personal level, he likes to play sports and is fan of modelling and strategy games.
His research covers the design, development and study of molecular systems for different applications in areas related to biotechnology and materials science. His scientific aims are focused on understanding and learning to control the ways in which molecules interact with each other. To achieve this, he develops new molecular tools based on macrocyclic molecules. Through organic synthesis, he uses these molecules as a structural basis to build larger, more complex molecules. He also takes advantage of their particular physico-chemical properties, such as the ability to trap smaller molecules inside or produce specific effects by absorbing light.
